City Administrator: Discussion of possible fire department staffing cuts was posted "as legally required"

Decorah City Administrator Chad Bird was a guest Thursday morning on KDEC-AM's "Our Town" program and was questioned by KDEC News Director Darin Svenson about the January 13th Personnel Committee meeting held to discuss Decorah Fire Department staffing.

A notice of the meeting was posted only on the bulletin board in the entrance to City Hall and was not sent to local news media.  Bird told Svenson the meeting was posted "as legally required," adding, "That's what we typically do with committee meetings."

Bird added that the committee did not take any action and the meeting was "for discussion only."  He said the Personnel Committee is not considering any one option, but is reviewing all the options possible for future staffing at the Decorah Fire Department.
