A Fort Atkinson woman and the occupants of her car were fortunate to escape after her car went out of control and slid into a creek on Saturday afternoon.
Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies say 20-year-old Tiffany Franzen was headed northbound on County V-64 and ran through a stop sign because of reduced visibility created by heavy fog. Franzen said she tried to stop, but skidded on snow and slush-covered pavement. Her car crossed County B-16 and landed in a small creek. Franzen's car became submerged up to its windows, but she and her passengers were able to get out of the car from the driver's side door and were unharmed.
The accident caused $3,500 in damages.
