Five NICC students are in Des Moines this week to take part in the 29th Annual Iowa Association of Community College Trustees Student Legislative Seminar at the state capitol.
The seminar offers sessions about college leadership and the legislative process for student leaders from Iowa's 15 community colleges. Sessions include Getting Involved in the Political Process, The Changing Demographics of Iowa, and 2016 – An Election Like No Other – and the Impact of Fake News.
The NICC student leaders will also share their experiences as community college students with their state legislators, including the challenges many students encounter while being enrolled, such as financial aid, student loans and funding. During the two-day seminar, students will tour the capitol and have opportunities to meet one-on-one with their local legislators.
