The South Central Winneshiek Fire Association is spending $242,426 to buy a new Freightliner tanker truck.  The purchase will be paid with property tax receipts of areas within the fire district.

But the Fire Association told Winneshiek County supervisors Monday they need some temporary help in meeting the downpayment for the fire truck ahead of signing a long-term loan for the equipment.

Representing the fire association, Tony Fox said there was $58,000 on hand to meet the downpayment--but the total downpayment required is $76,000.

County supervisors agreed to loan $18,000 to help with the downpayment.  Permanent financing is expected in July, so this will be a short-term loan from Winneshiek County,
