Women's Marches across the country on Saturday attracted huge crowds in cities and towns in all 50 states, including Iowa.
The Des Moines Register says organizers of the march in Des Moines estimated that 26,000 people attended. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune estimated that 100,000 people marched in St. Paul. Crowds were estimated at 75,000 people in Madison, 500,000 in Washington, D.C., 250,000 in Chicago, 100,000 in Los Angeles and 100,000 in New York City.
Decorah, of course, is a much smaller community. But the same rules apply--any figures about crowd sizes are estimates, not exact counts. Saturday morning's crowd was large, crowding into space at the Courthouse after walking down Water Street to get there.
How big was the crowd? Organizers say their best guess is that somewhere from 800 to 1,000 people participated.
