Winneshiek Medical Center staffers say they are seeing positive flu (influenza) tests almost daily. The Iowa Department of Public Health also has announced several influenza outbreaks that have occurred. Some of those outbreaks are resulting in hospitalized patients.
"We recommend getting a flu shot to help protect against flu illnesses and prevent spreading," says WMC Infection Preventionist Maggie Busta.
Flu vaccines are available at any time with a clinic appointment or on a walk in basis in the Decorah, Ossian or Mabel Clinics. Flu shots are also available at Winneshiek County Public Health and at local pharmacies.
The flu vaccine is designed to protect against four different flu viruses; two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses. If you've been thinking about getting a flu shot, it's not too late to get one.
