Wednesday was a good day for 34 Winneshiek County families who suffered damages in the August flooding in Freeport, Spillville and other areas of the county.
Members of the Northeast Iowa Board of Realtors handed out checks to the families as a result of the fundraising events they made in late summer and early fall.
The group crowded into the Hotel Winneshiek lobby and met with area realtors who raised money in order to help homeowners recover from the devastation they experienced in the flooding. The realtors held a fundraiser October 27th and also made and took contributions.
A total of nearly $40,000 was raised by the realtors. The majority of those funds were awarded to Winneshiek County property owners, although some residents of Waterloo and Cedar Falls will also receive checks at a ceremony on Thursday.
