Several Decorah residents say they are planning to hold a "Sister March" to the Women's March in Washington, DC on Saturday, January 21st.
The Decorah march will be held at 10:00 a.m. that day. Women and the men, families and friends who support them will gather at Mary Christopher Park on East Water Street in Decorah, then walk the sidewalks in downtown Decorah on Water Street up to the Winneshiek County courthouse steps for a rally.
Organizers say, "This gathering is a non-partisan showing of the need to protect women's rights." Bright pink hats and/or scarves are encouraged, as are signs.
"Why am I involved? Because human rights matter, because this is the correct side of history, because I want to secure a safer, kinder world for my daughter and her daughter! Because I have always been in the fight to protect women's rights and we all need to defend human rights," says one of the organizers, Shirley Vermace.
"We want to see a large group of supporters of women's rights from all over the Driftless Region," said another event organizer, Ruth Jenkins.
