Decorah Library Director Lorraine Borowski has announced that she will be retiring this year.
On Monday afternoon the Decorah Library Board of Directors began its work on finding a successor to Borowski. The board reviewed a draft of a job description for the Library Director. It will now send that draft to City Hall for input from City Administrator Chad Bird and City Clerk Wanda Hemesath.
Board members hope to begin advertising the position by the end of January. The opening would be advertised locally and posted at Luther College, as well as with schools that offer library science majors.
Last year's search for a new Youth Librarian brought around 40 applications. Library Board members hope the Director's position will also draw a lot of interest.
No start date has been set for the new Library Director, but board members are hoping it could be in June or July and that the new director would be able to job shadow Borowski for at least some time.
