Girl Scouts in the Decorah area will begin taking cookie orders on Friday, after receiving the cookie sale supplies Thursday. This year the cookie sales begin by taking cookie orders, then in February, the orders will be turned in and cookies ordered. Cookie sales will continue into March.
The 2017 cookie season marks the 100th year of the first known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts. They are introducing a new cookie in honor of the 100th year, S'mores.
Each troop decides how they'd like to spend the money they earn through cookie sales. Troops may choose to use the money to help girls attend summer camp or a specific service project.
Service Unit 616 has selected some local food pantries in Winneshiek County to be the recipients of the Hometown Heroes portion of the sales. For every purchase a customer makes towards the Hometown Heroes project, the customer will be purchasing a box of cookies that will be given to a food pantry in Winneshiek County. Service Unit 616 is really excited about the opportunity to be giving back to their community in such a way.
