Amy Thompson, owner/stylist at Rootz hair salon

Rootz hair salon, 202 West Water Street, is open for business.

Amy Thompson, salon owner and stylist, graduated from NICC's cosmetology program in 2013 and had been working at The Salon. When Dennis Smock announced he would be closing his barber shop in 2016, Amy began getting several of Smock's customers. She decided to check out his space to see if it would be possible to open her own salon.

On November 1, 2016, Amy took on the task of remodeling the building that housed Smock's barber shop for 44 years and make it her own space.  With the help of family and friends, they began remodeling the space and three months later, she is open for business.

Rootz' name came about as Amy's fiance had worked with cutting trees. She saw a picture of a tree on the internet and thought about trees, tree roots and hair and hair roots, and came up with the name Rootz.

Amy's hours are Tuesday--Friday 10 a.m.--5:00 p.m. Saturdays and evenings by appointment, 563-379-2880.
