A Decorah couple--Steve and Kathy Ransom--were taken to Winneshiek Medical Center by ambulance around 5:45 p.m. Sunday following a two-vehicle accident on County W-38 and Locust Road.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says 23-year-old Zachary Benitz of Mosinee, Wisconsin, lost control due to driving too fast for icy conditions. His SUV crossed the center line and struck Ransom's vehicle.
The Decorah Fire Department was dispatched and the rescue unit/JAWS were used to free the injured passengers from the Ransom vehicle.
Benitz was ticketed for failure to maintain control.
