With just under one week left in 2016, the year is guaranteed to set a record for precipitation in Decorah.
Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz will release final, official precipitation totals for 2016 next week. But he says Decorah has already set records for precipitation.
For instance, August and September of 2016 had over 25 inches of recorded precipitation—the highest two-month total ever. When July's precipitation total is added to August and September, the more than 33 inches of precipitation in those three months is more than the average yearly precipitation from the last 121 years of records.
So far in 2016, 56,59 inches of precipitation has been recorded. That's 7.48 inches higher than 1993's previous record of 49.11 inches.
