The Decorah Community Free Clinic has a new coordinator. Kevin Rockwell joins a staff of about 30 medical and clerical professionals, most of whom volunteer their time to the clinic.
Rockwell, who has lived in Decorah the past eight years, had been looking to volunteer at the clinic. When the job posting was made public, he decided to apply.
"In healthcare, if patients cannot get access to care, they will allow an ailment to potentially get worse. The patients we see are helped due to our dedicated volunteers, the providers, dentists, nurses, intake staff, social workers, pharmacist and pharmacy help, and interpreters," said Rockwell.
The clinic began as a vision of the Decorah Community Faith Coalition nearly 15 years ago, as a response to an assessment done by the social work department at Luther College, which identified ways many people were falling through the cracks of Decorah's health care system.
