Winneshiek County 4-Hers recently got a science lesson--in the form of baking cookies at the Oneota Co-op Classroom Kitchen.
2nd through 6th graders explored the ins and outs of sugar cookies and other cooking techniques at a "Cooking up Science" workshop led by staffers from ISU Extension. In one experiment, salt was added to hamburger to determine if it would bring out proteins important for cooking. The participants also performed a hands on experiment, mixing eggs with oil and vinegar. At the end of the workshop, participants determined what ingredient was missing in the sugar cookies and then baked their own to take home.
