Lower-than-expected customer numbers continue to challenge Winneshiek Medical Center

October's financial results at Winneshiek Medical Center were very similar to September's, continuing the trend of lower utilization or patient volumes generating lower revenues than anticipated. 

October's total patient revenue of $8.4 million was unfavorable to budget by 10 percent or $925,146.  Deductions from gross patient revenues were favorable to budget for the month and are favorable to budget year-to-date.  
Total net operating revenue for October was $4.9 million, which was below the amount budgeted.  Year-to-date, net operating revenues of $18.8 million are 3.5 percent less than last year at the same time and 6 percent unfavorable to budget.

October's Operating Expenses totaled $4.85 million, which were 1 percent or $52,794 favorable to budget.  Compared to last year at this time, operating expenses have increased 2.7 percent, while net revenues have decreased 3.5 percent.
 
For October 2016, Winneshiek Medical Center had a gain from operations of $13,470, which was unfavorable to budget by $77,019.  With non-operating revenues of $50,780, October had a Net Gain of $64,250.
 
Year-to-date the Net Gain, which includes non-operating revenues of $414,071, is $391,512.
