Luther College psychology professor Loren Toussaint says the holidays are a good time to practice forgiveness.
Toussaint appeared on Wisconsin Public Radio Wednesday to discuss his research on the topic of forgiveness. He said while we seem to be awash in a culture of revenge, there are plenty of examples of people practicing forgiveness. He told host Kathleen Dunn that forgiveness is an attempt to move on personally. "The last thing you want to do is to allow the person who hurt you to continue to hurt you in the future—but that's exactly what you do when you don't forgive someone."
"The best thing you can do is to put this behind you," said Toussaint, who said forgiveness is not the same as approving what someone has done.
