The Decorah Tree Board has been awarded a $6,000 grant from Black Hills Energy.
The "Power of Trees" project is a three-way partnership between Black Hills Energy, Trees Forever and the City of Decorah Tree Board.
The proposed project will involve planting 75 trees along Montgomery Street. The street sees a lot of pedestrian traffic, with a sidewalk along the west side of the street and the Trout Run Trail along the east side.
"This is a great partnership," says Decorah Tree Board president Jeremy Bril. "Black Hills Energy is really committed to bettering the communities it serves. We look forward to working with a representative from Trees Forever in planning and completing our project. The Montgomery Street approach to downtown will be greatly enhanced by a diverse assortment of trees."
The Tree Board will be soliciting property owners along Montgomery Street in late winter for input on the project. The planting will occur in late April.
Individuals or community groups willing to volunteer their time or people wanting more information should contact Decorah City Hall.
