Decorah Community Meal needs volunteer organizations for 2017

The Decorah Community Meal (DCM) is seeking local organizations to help prepare and serve food at its twice monthly meal served at First Lutheran Church on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

At each meal, the main dish is provided either by the Norse Culinary Team at Luther College or a local Decorah restaurant.  Java John's contributes Muffin Tops.  But additional food – side salads and desserts – are needed.  Also, volunteers, working with the DCM Steering Committee, help serve the food and clean up after the meal.

During the past five years, many Decorah civic, religious and educational groups have served as "Meal Sponsors."  This means that they provide about 12 volunteers who work for three hours as well as contribute salads and desserts.

Among the many organizations that have served as Meal Sponsors in the past are Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, Luren Singers and Decorah Covenant Church.  Smaller organizations have been partnered with other groups in a cooperative volunteer effort.

The most immediate need is for a Meal Sponsor on January 5th.  Other open dates are March 2nd and 16th as well as all through May until the end of 2017.
