For the first time ever, members of the Decorah Telecommunications Utility Board and the Metronet Board met together on Thursday.
The joint meeting gave the two groups---one which manages a fiber optic network for six area organizations and the other which wants to create a fiber optic network for residences and businesses in the Decorah area--a chance to discuss their futures. After meeting for an hour and a half and discussing topics such as ways to purchase Internet bandwidth for less money, the members of the two boards vowed to work together.
"I can see the path forward," said telecommunications board chair Jarrad Walter. Metronet Board member Kurt De Vore said he understood what the city board is going through now because "You're in the same spot we were at (when we started)."
City board member Anna Norris said she was happy to discover opportunities for the two boards to work together.
