Luther College Diversity Center is distributing safety pins

Posted: Mon, Nov 28, 2016 11:56 AM

The Luther College Diversity Center is distributing safety pins as part of a nationwide movement.

By fastening a safety pin to their clothing, people are showing that they stand in solidarity with minority groups such as Mexicans, Muslims and members of the LGBTQ community. Groups of people across America are attaching safety pins to their lapels, shirts and dresses to signify that they are linked and willing to stand up for the vulnerable.

According to the Luther College website, the Diversity Center provides services and assistance for U.S. minority and international students and offers educational programming and events. The Center works to promote a greater appreciation and a deeper understanding of the diverse individuals and groups on campus, strengthen access to multicultural perspectives within the tradition of a liberal arts education, and advocate for policies that safeguard the inclusion and participation of all members of the community.
