Winneshiek County Board gives its approval for an affordable housing study

Posted: Mon, Nov 14, 2016 11:04 AM

Director of Winneshiek County Development Stephanie Fromm updated the County Board Monday on a proposed study of affordable housing in Winneshiek County.

The last study was completed in 2013. Results from the proposed study would be available next fall. Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission would conduct the survey for $13,000.

Fromm says the current housing information is outdated. She hopes the  survey would provide proof for developers that there is a need for affordable housing in Winneshiek County.

In addition to the basic study there may be additional studies done about affordable housing in individual communities. The County Board may pay for these in unincorporated communities such as Freeport.

Funds have been previously approved for housing studies so there is money available. There are also a number of sources of grant money available.
