Breitbach, Bergan elected to State Legislature

Winneshiek County will be represented by Republicans in the next session of the state legislature.

State Senator Mike Breitbach of Strawberry Point won re-election Tuesday night, defeating Democratic challenger Jan Heikes 14,673 to 9,262.  Heikes won Winneshiek County, but lost in Allamakee, Clayton and Fayette counties.

State Assembly candidate Michael Bergan, the Republican, beat Democrat Pat Ritter of West Union 8,820 to 6,649.  The two men were running for the seat formerly held by Decorah Republican Darrel Branhagen.
