What's it like to run as a third party candidate?

Third-party candidates are not often at the center of political discourse during election seasons. Many blame this on the United States' institutionalized two-party system, but believe that it is important to consider the multiple perspectives and candidates even in such a system that heavily favors the major parties.

Independent party candidate Michael Luick-Thrams and Libertarian candidate Charles Aldrich--both running to represent Iowa in the US Senate--expressed their frustration with our current political system at a discussion Friday hosted by Luther College's Center for Ethics and Public Engagement.

Both candidates agree that the way to election day is full of barricades for anyone outside of the traditional two-party system, and the biggest obstacle is the lack of media coverage.
