The Iowa Scenic Byways program has announced plans to add 44 miles of highway in Winneshiek and Allamakee counties to its program.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and Iowa Department of Transportation Director Paul Trombino have announced the  "Driftless Area Scenic Byway" will be extended into Winneshiek County and will be expanded in Allamakee County.

The 44-mile loop will run from Allamakee County into Winneshiek County, reaching Decorah.  The paved roads will give tourists access to cold water trout streams, tourist destinations and unique Northeast Iowa geologic features.
