In what might be a sign that Winneshiek County residents just want the 2016 election campaign to end, absentee balloting remains heavy.
So far, 4,262 absentee ballots have been mailed in or fill out in person at the Winneshiek County Auditor's office as of 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Another 838 absentee ballots have been mailed out, but have not been returned yet.
Of the total of 5,100 absentee ballots, registered Democrats have used 2,046, registered Republicans have used 1,627 and people with no party affiliation or a third party affiliation have used 1,427.
The Auditor's office will continue absentee voting during normal business hours, plus have the following additional hours for the election:
Friday, November 4th open until 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 5th 8:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Monday, November 7th open until 5:00 p.m.
From now until November 8th, new voters and address changes will require documentation, including identification and proof of residency.
