A decorahnews.com poll: Are you for or against having fire engine sirens sounded if an athletic team wins a state title?

State champion Decorah girls cross country team members get a ride on a fire engine

Let us begin by saying we think it's great that the Decorah High School girls cross country team has won a state championship!

Let's follow that up by saying we appreciate the hours of volunteer service given by the Decorah Fire Department!

Let's finish by saying it wasn't our idea to hold a reader poll on whether it's a good idea to run fire sirens all the way from Highway 9 to Decorah High School in order to celebrate a state title.

But--there you have it--we've been asked to poll the public at large on whether they were scared to death of extended fire sirens on Saturday night or whether it's just one of those wonderful small town traditions.

So send us an e-mail--one vote per person--on whether you like the fire sirens set off or you hate waking up thinking the entire town is burning down.  Put "NO SIRENS" in the subject line if you dislike the idea, or "GO CELEBRATE" if you don't mind the noise.  Oh, yes, e-mail your opinion to news@decorahnews.com

Yes, this will be an unscientific survey--but that's how it goes.  No, we're not going to publish Letters to the Editor on this subject--just a quick poll.
