Luther College assistant professor of environmental studies Rachel Brummel will speak at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Luther CFL Recital Hall about "Trust in Commons: On Interdependence and Saving the World."
Brummel will explore how, in a world where people's environmental fates are intertwined, building trust among actors in the commons should be the primary project of environmental politics. She will argue that enhancing public trust through building upon people's interdependence—in communities, on the landscape, and in the global commons—is necessary to save the world.
Brummel joined the Luther faculty in 2014 and teaches courses in both the environmental studies program and the political science department. She attended Grinnell College for her undergraduate studies and holds a doctoral degree in conservation biology from the University of Minnesota.
The speech is open to the public with no charge for admission. A reception in the Center for Faith and Life's Qualley Lounge will follow the lecture.
