Decorah native Trevor Satrom has entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to a charge of possession of an unregistered destructive device, according to the Waterloo Courier.
The newspaper reports that while the charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, prosecutors and defense attornies will recommend a lesser sentence that would grant Satrom five years of probation because of a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress and schizophrenia.
The Bureau of Veterans Affairs and the Bureau of Prisons have both ruled that Satrom is suffering from PTSD.
No date has been set yet for sentencing.
