Decorah Police have arrested a 21-year-old Chicago man on a charge of 5th Degree Criminal Mischief for allegedly being the person who vandalized a Trump for President sign on Locust Road.
A Decorah Police news release says officers were called to the scene around 2:15 a.m. October 9th, but nobody was around when they arrived. Officers began investigating the case and received several tips.
After following up on those tips, police have arrested 21-year-old Christian Erazo of 1305 W. Ohio Street in Chicago on the criminal mischief charge. Erazo is a senior at Luther College and a member of the Zeta Tau Psi fraternity.
After the yard sign was damaged, Winneshiek County Republicans added a sign to the top of the damaged sign which read, "How tolerant Democrats respect your rights." The arrest of Erazo and the disclosure by Decorah Police that the sign allegedly was damaged at 2:15 in the morning by a 21-year-old college student make it unlikely that the vandalism had any political connection.
The Trump yard sign was later damaged for a second time. There have been no arrests in connection with the second incident.
