Area firefighters get to practice on a Frankville house

Posted: Sun, Oct 23, 2016 12:03 PM

After a summer of training on an old house in Frankville, area firefighters recently set the house on fire.

The training sessions at a property owned Rick and Bonnie Johnson of Frankville extended over a five month period and involved firefighters from Decorah, Ridgeway, Calmar, Castalia and Postville.  The trainings taught a number of tactics and techniques.

The Winneshiek County Joint Special Response Team also used the property to train on multiple occasions.

The Saturday before last the training came to an end when the Frankville Fire Department set the house on fire for one last live exercise, eventually burning the house to the ground.

Frankville Fire Department members say they are grateful to the Johnsons for allowing area firefighters to use this property for some of the most realistic training possible while still being able to work in a controllable environment.
