Decorah fifth grade students taking Sarah Nowack's environmental studies unit have donated $57 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation as a result of a class project.
The students collected old cell phones, which they then gave to Ryan Christensen from Sims TV and Electronics in Decorah. He volunteered to send the phones to a company that recycles the valuable earth materials found in cell phones. As a result, the company sent a check to the students. The students decided to donate the money to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
The fifth graders created a video that was shown to all Decorah Middle School students and made posters to hang around the school, educating their peers and teachers on how cell phones should be recycled to save valuable earth resources.
