Two people have died in shooting in the mobile home park in Freeport.
Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx says police received phone calls shortly after 6:30 Sunday night, reporting there had been multiple gun shots in the mobile home court just north of Old Stage Road on the east end of Freeport.
When the sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene, he found two dead bodies.
The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation was called in, as was the Iowa State Patrol and additional Sheriff's Deputies. The mobile home neighborhood was cordoned off and temporary lighting was brought in. Neighbors living in mobile homes near the shooting were all interviewed by deputies, to determine what they had seen and heard.
Sheriff Marx says the investigation into the two deaths is still proceeding. However, he adds, "There is no reason to believe the public is in danger."
It is important for decorahnews.com to state that the cause of the deaths has not been officially determined. However, it is also true that one possible reason the public should not worry about being in danger would be that the person responsible for the shootings also died Sunday night. Police did say that no one was in custody because of the shooting.
