Letter to the Editor: Vote for John Logsdon, Mark Kuhn and Dean Thompson to continue serving as county supervisors

The current county supervisor races feature three incumbents, two new candidates with no prior public service and two former supervisors who were ousted by voters in the 2012 election.  Voters can choose either to go back to a past that featured bickering, hostility, and divisiveness or voters can choose to stay on the current course of responsive local government featuring collaborative work based on careful preparation, thoughtful listening and problem solving grounded in the use of common sense, all of which is conducted in a nonpartisan manner.  This is the work that John Logsdon, Mark Kuhn and Dean Thompson are currently conducting in concert with Floyd Aschbacher and John Beard.

For the past four years Winneshiek County has enjoyed having a county government that works the way government is supposed to work, but often does not.  Citizens have received respectful hearing of issues they deemed important.  Government has been responsive to the needs of all, not just a favored few.  Instead of responses based on ideology and individual egos, responses have carefully considered current and future impacts on county resources and on citizen health and well-being.

Voters have a choice between rancor and respect, between hostility and civility, between conflict and collaborative problem solving.  If you prefer local government to respond to issues facing the county in a thoughtful, respectful, nonpartisan manner, I would urge voters to vote for the current incumbents who have been doing the job you expect them to do in a manner that has paid credit to effective government.  In short, vote for John Logsdon, Mark Kuhn and Dean Thompson to continue serving as county supervisors.
