(Note: Recently we commented that the response to flooding in Decorah should not just consist of buying more sandbags. We asked readers to make suggestions of ideas to help prevent future flooding. Today's e-mail comes from Kevin Sand of Decorah):
"I live just outside of Decorah just east over the Fifth Street Bridge. Having watched the Upper Iowa's flooding behavior with the recent 8+ inch rain, I think the Army Corp of Engineers should be consulted on raising the Dike.
What if we get a 12 inch rain? We need to slow the flow of water off the land with filter strips on our crop land, decrease tiling, and work on renewable energy sources in the long run to slow climate change."
