Former Fred Carlson Company executive "Fritz" Carlson dies at the age of 90.

A leading Decorah businessman has died at the age of 90.  "Fritz" Carlson graduated from the University of Iowa in 1947 with an engineering degree and returned to Decorah to work for the family-owned business, Fred Carlson Company in 1949.

For the next 50 years, Fred Carlson Co. was one of Decorah's largest employers, providing ready-mixed concrete products and concrete and asphalt paving throughout the Midwest.

In 2004 the company was acquired by MDU Resources Group, Inc. along with Roverud Construction, Inc. for a combination of cash and MDU Resources common stock.
