The North Winneshiek School District had a deficit of almost $200,000 in its special education budget last fiscal year. But that deficit should not harm the school district.
The North Winn School Board Monday night approved applying to the State of Iowa's School Budget Review Committee for money to cover the deficit. Funds would come from state allowable growth and supplemental aid funds.
The allowable growth formula gives school districts permission to spend funds to cover the special education deficit from the previous school year. The exact request being made to the Department of Public Instruction will be $196,329.09.
