Reports have surfaced of another type of scam.
The scammers send out a phony IRS CP 2000 form and claim the income reported on someone's tax return does not match the income reported by their employer. People might receive emails with attached phony forms, text messages and even live phone calls.
Law enforcement officers are again reminding the public the IRS will never initiate contact with you to collect overdue taxes by an email, text message or phone call. They say if you get any emails, text messages, mail or phone calls about this, hang up the phone. If you have any questions, contact your local law enforcement offices.
