Absentee voting could be very popular in Winneshiek County this fall.

County Auditor Ben Steines says there have already been 1,933 requests for absentee ballots.  225 ballots have been returned to the County Auditor's Office so far, while 417 people have visited the Auditor's Office and voted.  That makes a total of 642 absentee ballots cast so far--with almost one month to go before the election.

Steines says of those who have requested ballots, 909 have been registered Democrats and 582 have been registered Republicans, while 442 have had no party registration or are registered under a third party.

Absentee Voting will continue in the Auditor's office during normal business hours (Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.) through Monday, November 7th.  The Auditor's office also will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th, and Saturday, November 5th.

There will be a Satellite Absentee voting station at Luther College on Wednesday, October 12th, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 25th, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The Satellite Absentee voting station at Luther will be available for all voters who live in Decorah Ward 4, Decorah Ward 5, Canoe Township, and the part of Decorah Township in County Supervisor District 3.

Absentee ballots are also available through the mail by filling out a request form.

Sample ballots, absentee ballot request forms, voter registration forms, and other election related information is available at www.winneshiekcounty.org or by contacting the Auditor's office at (563) 382-5085.
