City of Decorah to have scheduled pickup of leaves in the streets

Posted: Wed, Oct 5, 2016 6:31 AM

The City of Decorah will again be offering leaf pickup this fall--with several changes.

Once again leaves can be dropped off in the shed at the Street Department offices at 108 Railroad Avenue.  This fall there will also be extended hours at the city compost site on Trout Run Road--8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. weekdays, with extended hours until 7:00 p.m. Wednesdays and 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturdays.

This fall there will be scheduled pickup of leaves in the streets.  Leaf crews will pass through on assigned pickup days, which are determined by the ward in which people live. Have your leaves raked into the curb by the first days to make sure they get picked up.  Rake leaves in a pile in the street along the curb area in front of your house.  Rake only leaves into piles--the city's leaf vacuum cannot pick up sticks, brush, garden refuse and other types of yard waste.  Rake leaves into windrow piles so crews don't have to handle multiple small leaf piles.

Parked cars hamper leaf pickup, so please avoid parking near leaf piles on scheduled pickup days.

These schedules depend on weather and properly functioning equipment.

  • Ward 1: October 10th-14th
  • Ward 2: October 17th-21st
  • Ward 4: October 24th-28th
  • Ward 5: October 31st-November 4th
  • Ward 3: November 7th-11th
