September of 2016 was the wettest on record of the 123 years for which records have been kept.
That's the word from Decorah weather expert Richard Bernatz, who says Decorah received 11.66 inches of precipitation in September--8 inches more than average.
For the last three months of July 1st through September 30th, precipitation totaled 34.71 inches, which is 22.92 inches more than normal. Bernatz says July through September of 2016 is the wettest three-month interval on record, April through September is the wettest six-month period on record and October 2015 through September 2016 is the wettest 12 months on record. In fact, Decorah has received almost twice the average amount of precipitation during the last 12 months.
September also continued the trend of warmer-than-normal months. The average daily temperature was 62 degrees--4.7 degrees warmer than normal.
