Posted: Tue, Oct 4, 2016 5:18 PM

Decorah resident Rick Burras has been named "Iowa's Tree Farmer of the Year" for 2016.

Burras was nominated for the honor by several District Foresters with the Iowa DNR.  The Iowa Tree Board then selected him from all the nominees.

Burras and his wife, Lori, own property on Madison Road.  They have planted oaks, walnuts and other hardwoods on 40 acres behind their house.  They also own property near Highlandville on which they've planted trees.

The Burrases will be hosting a Field Day next Tuesday at their property at 2271 Madison Road.  The event itself is free, although a lunch will cost $15.  Registration is available by e-mailing jberhow@iastate.edu by this Friday.
