County Board approves slightly higher bid for gasoline

Winneshiek County supervisors Monday approved low bids on a number of highway supplies for the upcoming months.

Bruening Rock Products won the contract for ice control rock for the county shops in Ossian, Freeport and Locust, while Wiltgen Construction won the bid for the Fort Atkinson and Ridgeway shops.

Fauser Energy of Elgin will win the county's contract for LP gas.

Hovden Oil of Ridgeway won the county's contract for fuel--even though their bid was very slightly higher than that of AgVantage of New Hampton.  County Highway Department workers argued to accept Hovden's bid--which was 1/4 of one penny higher--over that from AdVantage because switching to Hovden several years ago ended the fuel-related issues the county crews had been having with their equipment.
