The Iowa City Board of Adjustment on Friday night ended 12 hours of public hearing by voting 2-2 on the question of whether Reed and Sandy Carlson of Decorah should be allowed to build a "Kinnick Stadium style" house on Lusk Avenue.
The tie vote was a vote in favor of the Carlson's plans because the motion being discussed by the Board of Adjustment was to overturn the City of Iowa City's grant of a construction permit.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette said attorneys for the Carlsons declined to comment about the decision, while leaders of the neighborhood group formed in opposition to the plans said they were "very disappointed, but we're not finished." That would mean the issue could next be hashed out in Johnson County District Court.
