NICC honors area residents

Northeast Iowa Community College will recognize several of its alumni and retirees on Monday.

In ceremonies scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on the NICC Calmar campus, Dan Schmitt, Nina Taylor and Ken Vande Berg will be honored.

Schmitt is an Ossian resident who was a 1979 NICC graduate in Agri-Business.  He is a professional beef consultant for Innovative AG Services and has devoted his knowledge, customer service and consultation to beef industry clients for more than 35 years.

Taylor is a Decorah resident who was a 1984 NICC graduate in accounting.  She worked for Prairie Agri Enterprises and as comptroller for Pharmaceutical Innovators LTD until starting her own business in 1996, New Horizons Entrepreneur Center.

Vande Berg is a Decorah resident who worked from 1981 to 2010 at NICC as an economic development leader.  During that time, he worked as director of economic development services in 1987, was promoted to vice president of economic development services in 1998 and named interim president from 2003 – 2004.  He was a member of the Decorah City Council from 1989 - 1995 and the Comprehensive Planning Commission, and served on the Winneshiek County Development Board and the Decorah Chamber of Commerce Board.
