Firefighters called to Freeport home early Thursday

Decorah firefighters were called to a house fire at 2498 River Road in Freeport at 3:30 Thursday morning.

When firefighters arrived, they found fire burning through the roof of the home.  Power lines to the residence had burned off and were laying on the ground. 

Two teams of firefighters entered the structure and extinguished the fire.  There was fire, smoke and water damage throughout the structure.  Firefighters were at the home for three hours.


The structure was vacant.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.

The Decorah Fire Department was assisted by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, WMC Paramedic Service and Alliant Energy.
