The Trails of Winneshiek joint city/county committee has accepted a bid of $45,000 from Doug Egeland Tiling of Ossian to make repairs around one of the bridges on Trout Run Trail.
Committee members Wednesday morning learned that there has continued to be some undermining of the supports for Bridge C, close to Trout Run Road, near a DNR fishing access. Committee members said there is some "urgency" in getting the repairs to the bridge completed.
The work will include installing riprap around the bridge supports, as well as work to stabilize the stream bed to prevent future erosion.
Winneshiek County should learn by the end of October whether it will be declared a Federal Disaster Area. If it is, it will qualify for having FEMA pay 85 percent of the cost of the bridge repairs. That would leave $6,750 in local costs. The county and city have not yet agreed on how to split that cost, but Trails of Winneshiek members say it's important to get the repair work done right away and resolve the funding issue later.
