5k walks or runs are scheduled in Decorah for the next four Saturdays in a row. Many of these events use a route along Trout Run Trail--which has been closed several times this fall because of flooding.
But decorahnews.com has spoken with volunteers from the organizations holding the events and they all say their events will go on as scheduled--even if an alternate route is necessary.
The 2nd Annual Sena Hanson Memorial 5K Walk/Run/Bike to raise money for domestic violence prevention programs will be held this coming Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Decorah Fish Hatchery. One of the event organizers, Megan Sutton Clark, says she's been talking with Decorah Park-Rec officials, who told her the Trout Run Trail is now safe to use for her group's event on Saturday. Clark says--just in case--her group has a back-up route planned.
Saturday, October 8th, the Step Up--Reach Out Suicide Prevention 5K will leave NE Iowa Behavioral Health and use Trout Run Trail. One of the organizers of that event, Marcia Oltrogge, says there's a back-up plan for that race as well.
Saturday, October 15th brings the 5k Zombie Run to benefit the Relay for Life of Winneshiek County--but that race will be held at Pinter's on Highway 9 and won't use the Trout Run Trail.
Finally, the Loop de Loop 5k, 10k and half marathon--which had been planned for this past weekend on Trout Run Trail--is now planned for Saturday, October 22nd. With nearly four weeks before the new date of the races, organizers are hoping they won't have any flooding issues to contend with on October 22nd.
