Winneshiek Medical Center Foundation warns of current mailing

Winneshiek Medical Center Foundation officials say they have recently been notified that a solicitation for donations from "The Hospice Support Fund" has been sent to local residents. 

The mailing is headlined "2016 Decorah Area Appeal," but the organization sending the letter is from Merrifield, Virginia.

Winneshiek Medical Center officials say the hospital is not affiliated in any way with "The Hospice Support Fund," and the organization does not provide funds to WMC Foundation for local hospice care. 

In fact, the appeal says that only 5.79 percent of donations go to 'program services' says WMC Foundation Coordinator Holly Kanengieter, who adds, "100 percent of all donations to WMC's hospice program are used for local patient care and programs to benefit local families."

"Our mission is to support local care at Winneshiek Medical Center and any communication we mail is clearly marked with our WMC Foundation logo and address," says Kanengieter.
