You know it's been a rainy summer.  But maybe you don't know just how rainy it's been.

Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz has crunched precipitation figures through Friday--and he's got some interesting conclusions.

First of all, through Friday Decorah had received 11.57 inches of precipitation.  That makes it the wettest September on record--with a week of September still to go. The previous record was 11.22 inches in 1972.

The wet September follows on the heels of a wet August.  And when the precipitation figures for January through September are added together, Bernatz says, "Decorah's 2016 precipitation total to date is 51.11 inches, already surpassing the previous record for annual precipitation of 49.11 inches in 1993."

Bernatz points out there's a lot of time to add to 2016's record precipitation--in fact, 14 weeks.  Stay tuned!
